Getting to Crimea
Some sample Itineraries follow below, but first we would like to introduce you to 2 Ukrainian airlines. Both are reputable carriers that fly mainly Boeing Aircraft and are members of the Air Transport Association (required of all US carriers)
First is Aerosvit (Aepocbit) and they can be found at www.aerosvit.com.
Second is Ukrainian International at www.ukraine-international.com/eng
Visas: Visas are required to visit the Ukraine for citizens of the U.S. and any Western European country. In the U.S. go to www.ukraineinfo.us/consular/visas.html for information.
When traveling in the Ukraine, most all airlines connect to Kiev Boryspil Airport (KBP).
The Boryspil airport website is www.airport-borispol.kiev.ua/. This website also contains necessary customs information. Note! Local in-country flights are flown from Termnial A, international flights from Terminal B (main terminal). Keep in mind that when traveling back from Crimea through Kiev, it is sometimes necessary to spend a night somewhere in Western Europe because by the time aircraft arrive in Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and London, the transatlantic aircraft for the U.S. have already left. However, there are a few itineraries that can go from Simferopol all the way back to any U.S. destination in less in one day. Here are some sample itineraries that our members have used with success in the past:
Outbound to Crimea:
Delta from Cincinnati to Frankfurt, Germany (overnight flight) connects with:
Ukraine International non-stop to Simferopol (seasonal flight)
Return: requires an overnight in Frankfurt.
Outbound to Crimea:

Return: Leave Simferopol very early, change in Kiev, arrive New York +/- 3:00 p.m. same day.
Outbound to Crimea:
Czech Air from Toronto, Canada to Prague, Czech Rep. (overnight flight) connects with:

Outbound to Crimea:
Any U.S. airline overnight flight to Paris, France (overnight flight). Connects with:
Air France to Kiev, Ukraine. Connect with:
Either Aerosvit or Ukraine International to Simferopol.
Return flight: Flying back to Paris on Air France has required an overnight stay in Paris.
Outbound to Crimea:
Cincinnati to Amsterdam (overnight flight) connects with:
KLM/Ukraine International Codeshare flight to Kiev. Connects with:
Aerosvit or Ukraine International to Simferopol.
Return flight: This itinerary did not require an overnight stay in Amsterdam in 2004.
Other flights: Other flights are possible such as El Al (Israeli airline) seasonally to Simferopol from Tel Aviv, but this flight has had extremely late hours in 2004. Again, verify all times and flights with your chosen airline.
